What are the symptoms of

Many patients with confirmed Covid19 have developed fever and/or symptoms of acute respiratory illness (e.g., cough, difficulty breathing). However, limited information is currently available to characterize the full spectrum of clinical illness associated with Covid19. Based on what is known about the virus that causes Covid19, signs and symptoms may appear any time from 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Based on preliminary data, the median incubation period is approximately 5 days, but may range 2-14 days.

Testing for Covid19

There is two methods of testing for Covid19. Brief details are below but for detailed guidance, please click here.

Antibody tests

This is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG and IgM in human whole blood, serum or plasma specimens of symptomatic patients.

Antigen tests

These PCR tests are new to the market and rely on the detection of viral proteins in swab samples They consist of monoclonal antibodies specific for the viral antigens and results are seen by the naked eye by way of chromatographic particles. There have only been a few of these tests commercialized and normally require a high viral count to work effectively.
